It seems that the Alberta Liberals are getting their game face on for the next provincial election.
This evening, the Edmonton Castle Downs Constituency will nominate Chris Kibermanis as their Alberta Liberal Candidate for the next election. You may remember that Castle Downs produced the closest race in the last election, with Kibermanis, 29, originally defeating cocky Tory incumbent and playboy-wannabe, Thomas Lukaszuk, by 9 votes.
But it was not to be. In the days following Kibermanis' election, Lukaszuk and his O.J. style Tory Legal team descended on the Castle Downs results in an orgy of legal attacks which ended in the usurping of the original results which had been approved by Elections Officials. In the end, a 9 vote deficit turned out to be a 6 vote surplus... suspicious indeed.
This time, the rematch looks to be hot as Kibermanis has at least a year to campaign as the Alberta Liberal candidate. It is not known whether Lukaszuk, who as much as we can tell, doesn't do more than sit pretty in the backbenches and jump when ordered, will seek re-election.

With the race to replace aging Premier Ralph Klein in full swing and looking to be nasty (our "Deep Throats" in Calgary are witnessing the emergence of a "Ted Morton insugency" in many supposedly Paul Mar... er... "Jim Dinning friendly" ridings), Kevin Taft and the Alberta Liberals are more than definitely in a position to make major gains in soft-Tory ridings like Castle Downs.

Yeah good luck! People in Alberta will never elect a Liberal government. Wishful thinking on your part or are all you Liberal supporters smoking crack again. My friend worked on Ted Morton's campaign for his provincial seat and if he wins he'll tell Ottawa to fuck off and not covet our money unlike Liberals who will cave in to their masters

If you read my post, we suggested that the Alberta Liberals will be able to make major gain in many soft-Tory ridings. We especially think this would be the case if Dr. Morton becomes Premier. His screw Canada attitude tends to offend many non-crazy right-whing Tories.
Ted Morton will lead Alberta to its true glory as one of the GREAT REPUBLIC OF NORTH AMERICA!

I'm as non-partisan as any one I know, I've voted for every magor political party out there at one time or another.
ReplyDeleteRight now I would jump off a cliff for any political leader who can put forward a creative, viable, and optomistic vision for the futue of Alberta.

I think the Alberta Liberal vision is pretty reasonable.
ReplyDeleteI think Chris may kick a lot of ass in the rematch. Castle Downs is not easy turf for either party to win, but if Eggen proved anything in '04, the key is to nominate early, work the district hard, scare off your challengers, and seal up support that might leak to the other non-Tory party. Remember, somewhere around 1500 Castle-Downs voters opted for the New Democrats last time. We'll push the message hard that those votes would be more effective in the Liberal column and maybe that number can be cut in half, or even down to a third if we have a "shock and awe" campaign.

ReplyDeleteDid anyone else find it quite telling how the Alberta New Democrats kept on bashing us for "running a 28 year-old construction worker"? And they're supposed to be the party of the common man? The working class? The honest, humble folk who work hard for a living and are screwed by the corporate whip-holders? And they laugh at us for running a craftsman and laborer to represent a North Edmonton district?
You know what: fuck the NDP. I know that I'll regret saying that later, because their are a lot of good Alberta New Democrats out there, but for now, let me just enjoy a bit of acid-tongued rage.
