I will try to keep this list as updated as possible (last updated on September 14, 2007), so if you have knowledge of candidates that should be added feel free to post below or email me at

  1. Who are the dudes in bold? Daveberta-approved candidates?

  2. I had a nice chat with Edmonton City Council Ward 5 candidate Don Iveson at the Hancock constituency/volunter appreciation "pancaker" last week. Good first impression and I liked the issues he brought up.

  5. Thanks, Derek. I'm working on them...

  6. Thoughts re: Lewis Cardinal??

  7. I don't personally know him, but I've heard only good things about Lewis Cardinal. His campaign may have started a bit late, but he definitely gives Ward 4 a good option to keep up the lefty representation they are losing with Michael Phair's departure. I think Lewis Cardinal and Ben Henderson would make a great 1-2 punch for Ward 4. Sadly I don't live there anymore, so it isn't up to me!

  8. You may want to check your sources ... my understanding is that Donna Finucane is NOT running in Ward 5 this time around.

  9. Mandel will clean up. Most incumbent will win, but some will be in tough fights and could get the cut. Look out for a Voogd-Caterina dogfight in Ward 3. A Henderson-Yeung battle in Ward 4. And watch out for bright up and comer Don Iveson in Ward 5.

  10. Debbie Yeung's website (debbieyeung.com) is pretty special. But take heart: if you don't like badly compressed images, children's artwork and primary colours you can look at her second (??) website (thinkyeung.ca) where she tells us she's running for "counciler".

  11. Brent Thompson seems to think that he's running in Ward 4, no 3 as you're reporting.

Also, it's cool that Chris Martin is running. I served on a board of directors with him years ago. He was kind of spacy-seeming, but once you got to know him you realized he was whip-smart.

  12. Hi Dave,
Have you thought about listing the Trustee candidates as well? People are typically indifferent unless they have children in school, but 40% of your property tax goes to Education and 9 Trustee make the decisions about how it's spent. I'm running in Ward C...check out my website: www.suehuff.ca or my blog at http://suefortrustee.blogspot.com

For the record, I oppose closing schools.

    Thanks!

  13. Thanks, Sue. I am putting together a list of trustee candidates that I plan to put up this week.

    Good luck.

    Dave

  15. Any sign of Buffalo Bill Tomlinson?

  16. Thanks, noted here

Also, I've updated this list to add Hana Razga in Ward 4 and Dustin Becker for Mayor.

  17. Any predictions?

    Here are mine:

    Mayor: Mandel, duh.

Ward 1: Karen Liebovici, Linda Sloan
Ward 2: Kim Krushell, Ron Hayter
Ward 3: Tony Caterina, Harvey Voogd
Ward 4: Ben Henderson, Lewis Cardinal
Ward 5: Mike Nickel, Don Iveson
Ward 6: Dave Theile, Chinwe Okelu

I think a number of sitting councillors will get the bounce. Jane Batty, Ed Gibbons, Bryan Anderson have been dead weight on council and I predict will get the bounce (regardless of what Jim Lightbody says about incumbency).

  18. Hey Dave, what gives?

Up until recently you were linking to Amarjeet Sohi's site on your sidebar and he was your bolded candidate for Ward 6. Why has this quietly changed?

I hope for your sake this isn't because Mr. Sohi's Ward 6 competion, Chinwe Okelu, is known to be a local Liberal party organizer. Is your blog now subordinated to your employers entirely? If so, that's sad.

Hopefully your position reversal is not party motivated. Please let us know what's up?
