buzz about reboot & renew.

There is still a lot of buzz being generated about the Reboot Alberta weekend. I continuing to get questions from people all across the political spectrum about the event and a new group called Renew Alberta. If you have yet to hear about Renew Alberta, one of their organizers commented on one of my previous posts with some information:

I think this would probably be a good time to make a pitch for the movement I'm currently involved in: Renew Alberta. We're attempting to build a party that will appeal to moderate Albertans, and address some of the issues people speak to above: viability, pragmatism, and the embrace of change.
Provincial legislation requires the signatures of 0.3% of the electorate (currently 7050 people) for registration of a political party. We initiated our petition campaign last weekend, and we'll be working toward 7050 signatures over the coming months. We're very much interested in finding people to help us reach this target, and to help us shape the party into something that can address some of the shortcomings of current parties while maintaining electoral viability.
If you're interested in getting more involved, or learning more about us, I'd suggest joining our group at rebootalberta.org, or checking out our website, www.renewalberta.ca (where you can't do TOO much for the time being, but you can sign up for updates, or get in touch with us using the "contact" link at the top right of the page).
You can also follow them on Twitter at @RenewAB.

  2. Anon at 8:51. You have enough motivation to write a comment and enough motivation to call down the efforts of someone else ie referring to them as flies.

You are also asking them that in the event they do accomplish something to take the initiative and wake up your sleepy butt.

You are part of the problem anon. You are lazy.
    You are impolite.
    And you are selfish.

Get off your butt and get involved. If nothing else, you will meet some great people and feel re-engaged again.

    I been there.

  3. Anon 9:37 seems like quite the self rightous arse. Someone's been posting this "be quiet unless you join our side" drivel for a while now.

News flash sir and/or madame, people are allowed to be critical. Just cause they point out that a given ship is sinking does not mean they should be compelled to board said ship and bail water.

I know you well because I was once you. Tearing down anyone with new ideas, calling people "arses". Yeah, I know, I know. I've been there.

Eventually, it becomes tiresome to destroy peoples' hopes and dreams, as unrealistic as they may seem to be at the time.

I found it much more productive to rechannel my cynicism into wisdom and engage people and to share my hard won and hard bitten experiences in a way that gave people "options" and made them feel good about what they were doing.

I guess in a word, its called "finesse".

Looking forward to an ongoing engagement with you, friend.

  5. I don't think Anonymous 8:51 has torn anybody down. That person just wants to know if there is really anything tangible going to come out of these conferences. Another party? A take over of another party? A coup of the provincial government?

All that's happened so far is a few progressive people have got together, then posted on a bunch of blogs how great it was that they all got together.

  6. Another attempt at a new party, humm I thought we beat that dead horse before. I have my doubts about this but I have been wrong before.
