missing: premier ed stelmach.
While he made a brief appearance this week to announce Alberta's projected record $6.9 billion deficit, many Albertans have begun to notice Premier Ed Stelmach's absence from the important debates happening in our province.
In the first of many upcoming collaborative productions, Adam Rozenhart and I have created this poster to help Albertans in the hunt to find our missing Premier.
You can download the print-quality PDF here. Please print these off and post them all over your towns and cities!

For someone with the creative ability to post informative blogs this is sad. To bad for you but it is your blog.
ReplyDelete@Re-Pete: what?
ReplyDeleteRight on Re-Pete. Mr. "I've given up on hyper-partisanship" strikes again. I haven't seen David Swann since June and I know for a fact that Brian Mason was nowhere to be found earlier this week, when the media were trying to get comments on the budget release. So, where are their posters? Now that Dave has discovered Photoshop, is anyone safe? Yeah, probably, if their name isn't Ed Stelmach.
ReplyDeleteHe lives in my condo building, and oddly enough I have not run into him lately.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll hang the poster in the elevator.
Then again, I don't like the size of his bodyguard that picks him up.
This is hilarious. You two rock!
ReplyDeleteBrian Mason ins't the Premier. David Swann isn't the Premier. ED STELMACH IS THE PREMIER. AND HE IS MISSING!
ReplyDelete$20 donation to the candidate team who starts putting these on light posts in Calgary-Glenmore!
ReplyDelete"To bad for you but it is your blog." Re-Pete the o, (too).
ReplyDeleteI can hear you just fine, Colin. First of all, thank God that Brian and David are not. As for Ed, I know he was in Edmonton Tuesday - i saw him on the telly. He was at Stampede and met with Caucus and Cabinet there. He was at Capital Ex and met with Caucus and Cabinet there. He's around - just because he doesn't show up where you, Dave and Adam hang out (and let's face it, who's cool enough to hang with you three anyway) doesn't mean he's missing. When the RCMP issues a bulletin, I'll start worrying. Let's make an agreement - if you don't see him anywhere in the next 7 days, you can report him missing, hmmm...
ReplyDeleteHow bad would David Swann and Brian Mason be? They would lead us to record breaking deficits...? ...oh...wait...sh^t...
ReplyDeleteWow! Didn't think people would become so enraged. I don't doubt that the premier's been around at bbqs, but I certainly don't expect to see him out socially "hangin' out" with Dave and I... this was more about how absent he's been when it comes to the recession, electricity deregulation, and a raft of other issues that have come up this summer.
ReplyDeleteWhen Ralph Klein was running things, you'd be sure he'd weigh in on all the issues over the summer. Stelmach's a ghost, and compared to his predecessor, not a leader at all. That's the point.
That's pretty funny, good work! Reminds me of the 'Wanted For Terrorism' posters I saw a few years ago, with Klein's and Love's mugs on 'em. Were you a member of The Alberta Coalition For Responsible Leadership?
ReplyDeleteHey Adam. What, exactly, would you have him do about the recession? Seriously. I mean, the government is spending a ton of money so that people are employed building the infrastructure we need to survive the next boom, but what else? Love to hear how you would spend your summer vacation fixing a world-wide problem from here in little ol' Alberta. Electricity deregulation? Bill 50 will be before the legislature this fall, I think, and the AUB will be talking about transmission, I am sure. I guess he could wave a magic wand and fix it, I dunno. I kinda thought you guys were all about debating things and ideas and stuff, but I guess Ed could just unilaterally say "screw deregulation - let's go back to the way things were."
ReplyDeleteI'm not actually enraged. I'm just disappointed that smart guys like you feel that you need to resort to childish antics like this to make your point. I'm sure you have great ideas, so why don't you share them. Seriously.
Anonymous: Blue tinted glasses fit nice when working in the PC caucus, yah? Til the deficit presser this week I don't remember hearing Stelmach in the news since the K-Days BBQ in July (I don't even remember what he said).
ReplyDeleteSpending money (into deficit) in Alberta is easy. Leading is the tough part. Stelmach step up or step out.
Printed and posted! Thanks Guys!
ReplyDeleteI'm all for debating things, Anonymous commenter. But I also enjoy poking fun at politicians, celebrities, prominent local citizens. I don't claim to be all things to all people.
ReplyDeleteOther bloggers and journalists do a great job of publicizing the debate, sharing views, and engaging others. I think humour is a perfectly valid platform to do so as well. Shit, it got you talking, didn't it?
Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
Oh my, that is pretty funny! Dave, I guess Re-Pete thinks you cannot have a sense of humour or make a few jokes? Whew..I am glad he has never been to mine! Too funny...
ReplyDeleteShane
Isn't he vacationing with the Ignatieff's?
ReplyDeleteToo Funny.Unfortunately for us (or fortunately to bored bloggers)he's back, Seems he hasn't found the cure for foot'n'mouth disease.
ReplyDeleteDave:
ReplyDeleteA few of Edmonton's Twitterati got together this evening. We handed out posters and even posted one on the doors of the Legislature.
We will find the missing Premier!!

Stelmach's not the only one who has gone AWOL. Where's Liepert? Doc Duckett has gone Crocodile Dundee on our already pathetic mental health system and Ron "The Mouth" Liepert is nowhere to be seen. How many hours can it take Hill & Knowlton to coach the guy on how not to appear as if he was raised in a barn? Maybe they've gone fishing together.
ReplyDeleteHe's in Jasper this weekend at the Stollery Tee Up For Tots. It's a great event with tremendous support, so it's good to see the Premier there.
ReplyDeleteDaveberta does this poster just days after the premier does a news conference and on same day the premier makes an announcement in Jasper. Great work there, Dave....
ReplyDeleteBoy or boy Dave you certainly hit a nerve with the small "c" conservatives..You cannot blame them these days for being a little testy.Things just doesn't seem to be going their way lately. I enjoyed the poster for what it was "political satire"...For the sake of Mr. Ed( and the rest of Albertans) I hope he opens his eyes before the rollercoaster ride is over :-)
ReplyDelete90% of people in cowboy hats look like idiots. That includes you Dave!

Anon @ 8:34pm: Things are going fine for the PCs and Ed. Seen those 2008 election results lately? There's no evidence the results would be any different if another one was held tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI just shake my head at this blog sometimes. The last thing we need is increasing taxes during a recession.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the comments. I can appreciate that some people have different tolerance levels for satire, but please don't despair. Adam and I are equal opportunity satirists and this is only the first of many collaborations that we have planned!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Dave
Also, aren't cowboy hats great!?

ReplyDelete"Adam and I are equal opportunity satirists and this is only the first of many collaborations that we have planned!"
Yeah right. Where can I order back-issue satires of Taft/Swann, Mason, etc.?
The guy takes a couple weeks off in the summer, and some "Where's Stelmach?" crusade takes off by some allegedly post-partisan bloggers. Couldn't beat him when you were working for Taft on one angle, now you're working on manufacturing a fable that he's not around. Petty.
what is the big deal.Mr Ed has been absent for the past two years.Lower your expectations and therefor you will not be as disappointed. :)
ReplyDeleteThe licensing conditions of that photo require attribution to the photographer, which seems to be lacking. Thieves!
ReplyDeleteI like how the "Alberta taxpayer" is supposed to be upset that Stelmach cut taxes (admittedly, one after raising it).
ReplyDeleteAlberta taxpayers applauded both moves. And in a recession, so will economists.
During a lunchtime address to the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce November 12th
ReplyDeleteStelmach said:
“Alberta is poised to rebound from the economic turmoil and will benefit from a deep labour pool, but only for those with the right outlook.”
"The A and B Crews are working and the C Crew is at home until they change their attitude," he said, during prepared remarks.
"This is the new reality in a time of recession."
According to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, Alberta's employment rate has fallen 3.3% or 68,000 workers since October 2008, the sharpest decline in Canada.
Last month alone, 15,000 jobs were lost, pushing the current unemployment rate to 7.5%.
Does the dough head know he's on the D team by Voter approval and the reason I don't have a job is because he messed with the Royalties? That's my D player.
