While he made a brief appearance this week to announce Alberta's projected record $6.9 billion deficit, many Albertans have begun to notice Premier Ed Stelmach's absence from the important debates happening in our province.
In the first of many upcoming collaborative productions, Adam Rozenhart and I have created this poster to help Albertans in the hunt to find our missing Premier.

ReplyDeleteRight on Re-Pete. Mr. "I've given up on hyper-partisanship" strikes again. I haven't seen David Swann since June and I know for a fact that Brian Mason was nowhere to be found earlier this week, when the media were trying to get comments on the budget release. So, where are their posters? Now that Dave has discovered Photoshop, is anyone safe? Yeah, probably, if their name isn't Ed Stelmach.

ReplyDeleteI can hear you just fine, Colin. First of all, thank God that Brian and David are not. As for Ed, I know he was in Edmonton Tuesday - i saw him on the telly. He was at Stampede and met with Caucus and Cabinet there. He was at Capital Ex and met with Caucus and Cabinet there. He's around - just because he doesn't show up where you, Dave and Adam hang out (and let's face it, who's cool enough to hang with you three anyway) doesn't mean he's missing. When the RCMP issues a bulletin, I'll start worrying. Let's make an agreement - if you don't see him anywhere in the next 7 days, you can report him missing, hmmm...

ReplyDeleteWow! Didn't think people would become so enraged. I don't doubt that the premier's been around at bbqs, but I certainly don't expect to see him out socially "hangin' out" with Dave and I... this was more about how absent he's been when it comes to the recession, electricity deregulation, and a raft of other issues that have come up this summer.
ReplyDeleteWhen Ralph Klein was running things, you'd be sure he'd weigh in on all the issues over the summer. Stelmach's a ghost, and compared to his predecessor, not a leader at all. That's the point.
That's pretty funny, good work! Reminds me of the 'Wanted For Terrorism' posters I saw a few years ago, with Klein's and Love's mugs on 'em. Were you a member of The Alberta Coalition For Responsible Leadership?
ReplyDeleteHey Adam. What, exactly, would you have him do about the recession? Seriously. I mean, the government is spending a ton of money so that people are employed building the infrastructure we need to survive the next boom, but what else? Love to hear how you would spend your summer vacation fixing a world-wide problem from here in little ol' Alberta. Electricity deregulation? Bill 50 will be before the legislature this fall, I think, and the AUB will be talking about transmission, I am sure. I guess he could wave a magic wand and fix it, I dunno. I kinda thought you guys were all about debating things and ideas and stuff, but I guess Ed could just unilaterally say "screw deregulation - let's go back to the way things were."

Anonymous: Blue tinted glasses fit nice when working in the PC caucus, yah? Til the deficit presser this week I don't remember hearing Stelmach in the news since the K-Days BBQ in July (I don't even remember what he said).

Stelmach's not the only one who has gone AWOL. Where's Liepert? Doc Duckett has gone Crocodile Dundee on our already pathetic mental health system and Ron "The Mouth" Liepert is nowhere to be seen. How many hours can it take Hill & Knowlton to coach the guy on how not to appear as if he was raised in a barn? Maybe they've gone fishing together.

I enjoyed the poster for what it was "political satire"...For the sake of Mr. Ed( and the rest of Albertans) I hope he opens his eyes before the rollercoaster ride is over :-)

The guy takes a couple weeks off in the summer, and some "Where's Stelmach?" crusade takes off by some allegedly post-partisan bloggers. Couldn't beat him when you were working for Taft on one angle, now you're working on manufacturing a fable that he's not around. Petty.

ReplyDeleteI like how the "Alberta taxpayer" is supposed to be upset that Stelmach cut taxes (admittedly, one after raising it).

"The A and B Crews are working and the C Crew is at home until they change their attitude," he said, during prepared remarks.
"This is the new reality in a time of recession."
According to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, Alberta's employment rate has fallen 3.3% or 68,000 workers since October 2008, the sharpest decline in Canada.
Last month alone, 15,000 jobs were lost, pushing the current unemployment rate to 7.5%.
Does the dough head know he's on the D team by Voter approval and the reason I don't have a job is because he messed with the Royalties? That's my D player.
