Exactly the reason why I had to always attempt to convince people everyone in Alberta isn't a reactionary moron. Travel outside Alberta for more than a long weekend and see exactly how others veiw the province, and don't let fake idea that "oil and jobs" makes albertans superior, it just makes us distracted.
I think that bumper sticker is funny. I have no problem bringing back capital punishment and "hanging the bastards". Unless you guys got a fetish for child molesters and perverts.
Dave Cournoyer began blogging in 2005 while studying Political Science at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. In 2006, he was elected Vice-President (External) his Students’ Union and served as Chair of the Council of Alberta University Students until 2007. Since then, he has worked as Communication Coordinator for Alberta’s official opposition party and for various advocacy and public policy groups. As well as writing on this blog, Dave also occasionally writes for publications such as SEE Magazine.
Well put.

ReplyDeleteDid you see a storage silo named Jimbob? That is one of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteWhy should any of us care how other people perceive us? Isn't it more important how we perceive ourselves?
ReplyDeleteGroup Hug anybody? Whether you agree with the sticker or not, it's definately a lot cheaper that building prisons.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about you, but I define myself as a Canadian, not an Albertan.
ReplyDelete"Why should any of us care how other people perceive us? Isn't it more important how we perceive ourselves?"
ReplyDeleteIt may just be my opinion, but I don't think most Albertans would appreciate being sterotyped as a hairy redneck truckers who want to hang people...

ReplyDeleteIs that what your mother tells you?
But seriously, for all our talk about Ottawa not understanding us, I'm sure anecdotes such as this help foster the wrong impression.
"I'm sure anecdotes such as this help foster the wrong impression."
ReplyDeleteDon't forget rhetoric. The right in Alberta is really good at rhetoric.
