...is from a different party. Alberta Alliance leader and MLA Paul Hinman (Cardston-Taber-Warner) is endorsing Ted Morton (Foothills-Rockyview) in the Alberta PC leadership race...
Alliance brass back Morton - Morton, Alliance share aim to unite the right in Alberta
UPDATE...
And almost as fast as Ted Morton gains an MLA endorsement, Alberta PC leadership candidate Alana DeLong (Calgary Bow) drops out of the race and endorses front-runner Jim Dinning...
That gives Jim Dinning 34 Alberta PC MLA endorsements... see the full endorsement list here.

Hey Dave:
ReplyDeleteA nobody like Alana Delong drops out of the race and throws her 50 votes behind Jim Dinning, while another candidate Lyle Oberg puts out the most detailed costing document of any candidate in the race thus far, independently verified by one of Canada's foremost economists, Ernie Stokes, and it doesn't rate even a mention on your site. Go to Oberg's site and take a look. Let's face it, Alana Delong was always a stalking horse for Diamond Jim and you guys bought this contrived maneouver hook, line and sinker.
Who wants to read a blog post about "the most detailed costing document of any candidate."
ReplyDeleteNot that it matters anyway, why wasn't Oberg fighting for this during his 10 years in cabinet?
So Christine, you're telling me that the recent Leger poll in which Albertans say there biggest concern is someone who can prudently manage the economy doesn't matter to you.
ReplyDeleteAnd if Dinning was so concerned about Albertans and their future, why was he out laying in the weeds for the past ten years just waiting for Ralph to retire, earning his big pay cheques from TransAlta Utilities, and sitting on his various boards asa a director
So I ask you in turn, why wasn't Dinning fighting for Albertans during his ten years away from government?
As John Dean once said: Blind ambition....
"...and it doesn't rate even a mention on your site."
ReplyDeleteI love how you're an establishment figure now, Dave.
AS A PROMINENT BLOGGER, YOU'RE NOT LIVING UP TO YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE ALBERTA BLOGOSPHERE COMMUNITY!! SHAME!!! :)
"So I ask you in turn, why wasn't Dinning fighting for Albertans during his ten years away from government?"
ReplyDeleteBecause he was too busy being a corporate VP?
If you think i'm trying to defend Dinning, you couldn't be further off the mark.

no doubt, should I be honoured that this anonymous commentator thought to turn to me for the latest Lyle Oberg news... I'm still the editor in chief, so I get the final say on posting...
I will do a round up of pc leadership candidate platforms in the coming weeks though.
how long until Victor Doerksen drops out and endorses Dinning?
ReplyDeleteAlana DeLong's departure from the race and endorsement of Dinning should be no suprise to anyone. Why else would DeLong have wanted to run but to try to solidify her position as a potential Jim Dinning cabinet minister or SPC chair.
ReplyDeleteI have my doubts whether this will work, but her best bets were to drop out now before the leadership selection weekend so that her support meant more than the 1.2% of support she may have garnered at the polls.
It's too bad that Delong as the only woman candidate wasn't even a credible candidate. The Tories have missed a golden oppurtunity by not attracting a strong woman candidate in the sea of middle-aged white men we now see before us.
"And if Dinning was so concerned about Albertans and their future, why was he out laying in the weeds for the past ten years just waiting for Ralph to retire, earning his big pay cheques from TransAlta Utilities, and sitting on his various boards asa a director"
ReplyDeleteI have news for you - Dinning is still sitting on various corporate boards as a director, and getting his big cheques. This is the height of hypocrisy, since it was primarily people in Dinning's camp that engineered the edict from Klein that all cabinet ministers entertaining leadership ambitions must step down from cabinet. So Stelmach and Hancock step down, as asked (and Oberg gets canned for foot-in-mouth disease), but Dinning stays on his corporate boards. Then Dinning formally launches his campaign... and continues to sit on his boards. Then the official leadership race begins, and Dinning is the sixth (no, not the first) candidate to file his papers... and continues to sit on his boards.
I think this certainly speaks to the character of the man. Still looking out for himself, on the off-chance his carefully engineered win - more than five years in the making - doesn't actually pan out.
Support from another party, particularly a fringe party like the Alliance, would normally be a bad thing for a leadership candidate, and hopefully this is no exception. The Alliance endorsement should only further perpetuate the view among the Tory membership that electing Morton would be an electoral disaster for the party.
